Do You Really Need the PopUps?

You need to look something up so you type your subject into The search engines. You pick out one of the results that Google has called up for you and click it. Then, once the page loads, you get a big surprise. Instead of being given helpful content that will help you find out more about your subject, you are presented with a pop up. This is an ad that refuses to be shut down no matter how hard you try–until you enter your e-mail address into it. Eventually you are so irritated that you just close down your browser completely. The manager of that website has gotten the better of you!

Of course that doesn’t mean that those very same IMers should keep using them. What kind of worth will there be to an e-mail address that is solely given under duress? Usually what happens is that the person just chooses to immediately opt out of your list as soon as they get the first e-mail from you. How great can page viewers be when the majority of it clicks away because it is genuinely offended by your ad? Sure you want to generate income, but is this really the best way? Couldn’t there be an additional option available to those who want to build an e-mail list and sell things?

The truth is just this: if you have a good product, you aren’t going to need a pop up if you can present that product well. Concentrate first on creating a top quality product so that you won’t have to make use of an annoying pop up to get the job done for you. Write an awesome sales or splash page. Make your written content and copy so powerful that it is able to grab your reader’s attention so hard that it never has to let go. No pop up banner ad can actually substitute the actual value of your product.
